A reinforced concrete beam located on the sixth floor of a parking structure in downtown Atlanta was noted to have a deteriorated bearing and bearing pad. Innovative Engineering was contacted to assess the severity of the bearing deterioration and determine a scope for repairs. An initial site visit was performed to establish the existing condition of the bearing. Additional site visits were performed to monitor the damage. At one of these follow up site visits, it was observed that a large crack had developed on the face of the corbel supporting the deteriorated bearing. The owner was immediately made aware of the developing condition and Innovative Engineering developed emergency shoring plans to remove load from the damaged beam and corbel. Shoring was installed at six levels of the parking structure. Following the shoring, repair details were created to correct the damage at the corbel and bearing.
